What's a team drive:
A team drive is a collaboration cloud storage that offers unlimited storage space for the members in it.
How long does it last:
Normally forever. Because normally the only chance for a team drive to get deleted is when the school/organisation decides to unsubscribe from g-suit plan. Since g-suit education and non-profit is free, it is basically impossible for you to lost your data in team drives. (If your team drive is hosted on edu/non-profit accounts such as ccsf, swccd etc...)
How to copy large contents to (and from) team drives:
Background: Google allows copying content, but it has a limit of 750gb per account per day. So here are the two tools to bypass this limit:

Why team drive is even safer to store files than edu accounts.:
Team drive are almost impossible to be deleted.
Here is how hard a school admin needed to take down your team drive:

A team drive can only be deleted if it is empty, so...
1. Admin has to add itself as a 'Manager' of that team drive
2. Admin has to remove every single files in that team drive.
3. Admin can finally delete that team drive for good~
Which is ridiculous and time consuming for a school admin to do.
And...
Suppose you have uploaded a lot of files in the team drive and then you account is suddenly deleted. You don’t have to worry since you files will still stay in the team drive and still be accessible by other members in that team drive. That’s because the file stays in the school’s domain, not the owners’. So your files will stay in there as long as the school continues to use the google edu services.
So, feel free to store your movies, video games or any thing in the team drive.
But, for personal files like your family photos or video. It's up to you to decide whether it not to store in there because remember, the admin in that school have the right to inspect any edu account or team drives if they want to!
But you can still store personal files safely by encrypting your files using rclone. Search “rclone encrypt files” and something similar to find the guides you need. Or you can encrypt and upload files though Air explorer.
